The challenge
In a rapidly changing professional landscape, the skills that make an effective leader today may not be the ones that matter tomorrow. Research suggests up to 30% of current skills will become obsolete within five years in a typical role - and the pace of change is only accelerating.
Rialto Consultancy came to Bravand with three years of research, thinking and scribbles on paper - and a big idea for how to help leaders stay ahead of the curve. They needed someone to turn it into a product.
The platform
RALI - the Rialto Accelerated Leadership Index - is a benchmarking tool that profiles and assesses a leader's current capabilities and experience against future market needs and peer competitors, using real-time data. Built on 5+ years of global research and validated through interviews with executives across multiple sectors, it asks 38 questions across 18 future-focused market requirements and returns a personalised leadership profile - benchmarked by role function, leadership level, organisation size, geography and sector.
The output isn't just a score. It identifies gaps, risks and development areas, giving leaders a clear picture of where they stand and what they need to do to stay competitive. For individual leaders it's a self-serve benchmarking tool; for HR and L&D teams it's a deployment platform for cohorts. And for Rialto, it's a powerful way to open conversations about their broader consultancy services.
RALI has since won a Global Business Excellence Award. The chairman of the judges described it as a radical tool and a must-have for leaders who want to stay on top of their game.
The UX challenge
Designing RALI wasn't straightforward. You're not just presenting information on a screen - you're inviting leaders to interrogate their own capabilities, understand their gaps, and confront how changing their behaviour might impact their professional future. That requires a level of emotional intelligence in the design that goes well beyond a standard assessment tool.
The mobile experience presented a particular challenge. Bravand designed and built a fully responsive web app around Rialto's content - making a complex, data-rich assessment work intuitively across every device.
The outcome
RALI is live at ralionline.com and continues to be used by individual leaders and organisations. The platform is still evolving - there's more to come.
"When we first met Bravand, we had one big idea and over three years of thoughts and scribbles on paper to support that idea. Jilly and her team helped us take those thoughts and make them a reality."
